Saddam's demeanor and the oil-for-food scandal--
After pondering Saddam's aggressive (yet obviously also frightened) behavior during his arraignment in Iraq, it occurred to me that his fallback strategy had always been to get the UN to exert jurisdiction over any criminal proceedings against him. He assumed that Kofi Annan et al. would take care of him "for services rendered." Unfortunately for him, because of the exposure of the oil-for-food scheme, the UN bureaucrats no longer dare intervene on his behalf.
